The Ukrainian capital marks its 1534th birthday on the May 28-29. The Kyiv Post takes a look at the options for celebrating Kyiv Day this year:

May 28

Vyshyvanka Parade

People in vyshyvankas, Ukrainian folk embroidered shirts, are
to march from Sophyivska Square to Kontraktova Square, via Mykhailivska Square.
The motorcyclists and cyclists are welcome to participate, organizers say.

May 28-29

Music concerts

Music concerts featuring around 40 Ukrainian and
international musicians will be held on five stages located in various parts of
Kyiv. The main stage is at Sophyivska Square. Young Ukrainian bands will
perform on Kontraktova Square, a folk music concert will be held on
Mykhailivska Square, and street music performances will be held on Andriyivskyy
Uzviz. There will also be literature readings in Peizazhna Valley.

Bike races

Cycling enthusiasts can take part in charity bike ride on
May 28 that starts at European Square and ends near Druzby Narodiv Park.
Moreover, the three-day Race Horizon Park competition for professional cyclists
will be held on May 27-29. More details about the races, routes and times is

Joyland entertainment
festival

An entertainment festival at Kyiv’s National Exhibition
Center will feature music performances on its opening day on May 28. Festival-goers
will be able to rent a bike or a pair of roller-skates, enjoy a spot of gardening
in a special zone, take a part in sports competitions, ride on a giant swing,
and eat barbecued food.

Knights Tournament

The tournament program includes a reconstruction of defense and
capture of a medieval city, with a cavalry display and demonstration of firing
by authentic trebuchets. The tournament’s visitors will also be able to ride horses,
shoot from a bow and take pictures of themselves in medieval costumes.

3-D Mapping Show

The 3-D Mapping Show Kyiv City Administration building will feature holograms
and technologies invented in Ukraine by prominent Ukrainian inventors.

May 29

Chestnut Run

Participants of the Chestnut Run, the biggest annual sports
charity event in Ukraine, which is aimed at raising funds for treatment of
children suffering heart diseases, can eneter for races of 4,700, 5,000 and 300

Ice-cream
festival

Those with a sweet tooth can try out ice-cream and sweets
from Ukrainian producers in Ukrainian House on May 27-29. The festival also
includes master-classes and performances for kids.

Wine Festival

Wine lovers can taste samples from Ukraine’s best wine
producers and relax near the Dnipro at this event on Trukhaniv Island. Entrance
is free, but registration
