Even though Thanksgiving Day, celebrated this year on Nov. 26, is not observed in Ukraine, American expats and those fascinated with the holiday can still find some options for celebrating in Kyiv. Wine tasting, traditional dinner with turkey, a night in the discussion club or Irish pub – the Kyiv Post has picked a few events to mark this special day.

Gastroevening at Gastro & Wine Market Winetime

At the Gastroevening event, Winetime will give American Thanksgiving a Ukrainian interpretation. Together with chef Anatoliy Dobrovolskyi the visitors will cook turkey in a capers-and-butter sauce, bake a pumpkin pie and make other traditional meals. At the tasting, one can try wines like Bisceglia Terra di Vulcano Fiano, G7 Chardonnay, and Fantinel Borgo Tesis Verduzzo Friulano Dolce.

Turkey weeks at Sam’s Steak House

Sam’s Steak House offers a seasonal turkey menu that includes tapas with smoked turkey, hummus and pear, mac ’n’ cheese with marinated turkey under cream sauce, burger with turkey, cheddar cheese and raspberry sauce. Besides, on the Thanksgiving Day on Nov. 26 the restaurant will serve turkey, stuffed with apples and nuts. A whole stuffed turkey can be ordered in advance for Hr 320 per kilogram.

Thanksgiving concert at O’Brien’s Irish Pub

To spend a holiday evening in the pub listening to live music, visit O’Brien’s Irish Pub. Ghurt-Yo-Ghurt will give a special Thanksgiving show. The band is Maria Khmeliova (flute, voice), Danil Denisov (accordion), Evdokim Reshet’ko (guitar), Kirill Borodin (violin) and Sergei Yakson (drums).

Thanksgiving night at Discussion Club

America House’s Discussion Club will have a Thanksgiving celebration on the eve of the holiday. Participants will discuss American history, share food and give thanks together. America House promises to have a “very special, surprise guest” and serve turkey. But to make the evening truly festive, the participants are asked to bring some food to share. One needs an ID or passport to visit America House.
