The Bureau of Investigative Journalism: Euro 2012. Welcome to hell?
In just 10 days’ time, the Polish and Greek football squads will meet in the National Stadium, Warsaw, for the opening match of Euro 2012. The next day, the Metalist Stadium in Kharkiv, Ukraine, will open its doors to teams from Denmark and the Netherlands. The Ukraine has spent a total of $13.4bn (£9bn) in preparation for the tournament, including $6.6bn state funding. Poland has also invested heavily, with a new stadium, improved transport and infrastructure, and high security measures for the games.
