I arrived in Kyiv on 14 June 2008, to torrential rain and a Paul McCartney concert on Independence Square. Since then, life and work in Ukraine has been continually fascinating. This blog highlights and comments on events in this important European country. About me: I grew up in Nigeria, Exeter, Lesotho, Swaziland and Manchester and studied at Cambridge. I worked in several government departments (full biohere)before joining the Foreign Office in 1983. Keen to go to Africa and South America, I've in fact had postings in Vienna, Moscow, Bonn, Berlin and Kyiv, plus jobs in London ranging from the EU Budget to theBritish Overseas Territories I'm married and have two grown-up children. 2002-6 I was lucky enough to spend four years in Berlin running the house, looking after the children and doing some writing and journalism while my wife worked at the embassy. Possibly the best four years of my working life. You can read all my blog entries in English or Ukrainian. |
