Marco Levytsky
Marco Levytsky is the Editor and Publisher of Ukrainian News, an independent bi-weekly newspaper based in Edmonton and distributed across Canada.

It is the largest Ukrainian community newspaper in Canada and considered the leading voice of the Ukrainian Canadians community. It is widely read in government circles and is distributed to every Member of the Canadian Federal Government. The newspaper has a bilingual format (70% in English and 30% in Ukrainian).

Levytsky was born in Winnipeg in 1952 and grew up in Toronto. He has a BA from the University of Toronto and completed the course work in the one-year post-graduate journalism program at Carleton University in Ottawa. He was first hired as Editor of Ukrainian News in 1982 and took over the operation from the Ukrainian Catholic Eparchy of Edmonton in 1988.
The “Open Letter: The UCCLA, the UCC and the Canadian Museum for Human Rights,“ signed by 78 international scholars and other individuals, which was first posted online by the Ukraine List on April 11 distorts the positions of the Ukrainian Canadian Congress (UCC) and the Ukrainian Canadian Civil Liberties Association (UCCLA), while at the same time vilifying those who gave their lives in the struggle for Ukraine’s freedom, and deliberately minimizing the horror of the Holodomor.

Congratulations to Québec’s National Assembly for unanimously passing Bill 390 — An Act to proclaim Ukrainian Famine and Genocide (Holodomor) Memorial Day. Québec now becomes the fifth province in Canada and the sixth Canadian jurisdiction (including the federal Parliament) to recognize the 1932-33 famine as the act of genocide it was and memorialize its victims.
