The July 21 arrest of ex-Interior Ministry general Oleksiy Pukach, a suspect in the 2000 murder of journalist Georgiy Gongadze, came on the same weekend that President Victor Yushchenko declared his re-election bid for the Jan. 17, 2010, presidential election. Were these two events merely coincidences or a bizarre attempt to rekindle Yushchenko’s popularity above its paltry 2-3 percent?

In the USA, they sell a beer called “Budweiser Lite.” As Budweiser is already a very “lite” beer, I usually say when I am in an American bar that the concept of a “Budweiser-light” is scientifically impossible and ask the waiter or waitress to bring me “real beer.”

For Ukraine group leader Vyacheslav Kyrylenko told Channel 5 television on April 10 that Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko has chosen former Parliament Speaker Arseniy Yatsenyuk as his successor. It remains unclear if Yatsenyuk has gotten round to sending a "thank you" to the president for his endorsement.

Mychailo Wynnyckyj's response [March 19 Kyiv Post, “Yatsenyuk, unlike current leaders, inspires hope for better democracy”] to my op-ed in the Kyiv Post [March 5 Kyiv Post, “Yatsenyuk, a Yushchenko clone, will bring stagnation”] was a libelous article that should be challenged.

I had thought I had seen it all in the last four years since the Orange Revolution, but this has to top it. Politicians Taras Chornovil, Oleksandr Moroz, Serhiy Holovatiy and many others moved effortlessly from the Orange to the Party of Regions camp.
