George Orwell's Newspeak in Ukraine's Political Discourse

Yesterday President Yushchenko gave an interview to many regional media outlets in which he described the 2 September voting in parliament by BYuT and Regions as a 'state coup'.

I remain confused.

Why is a coalition between Our Ukraine and Regions a coalition that unites Ukraine but a coalition between BYuT and Regions a coalition that organises a 'state coup'?

The 'state coup' is described by the president as ruining the democratic coalition. Yushchenko seems to have inherited Kuchma's habit of not noticing what the head of the presidential administration is doing in his name. So,I ask the president what the 'crisis manager' was doing all year - defending and supporting the orange coalition?

This is the language of George Orwell's fictitious future '1984' where black is white, a virtual world which contradicts reality.

State Ministries in '1984' were the Ministry of Peace that conducted perpetual war, the Ministry of Plenty rationed and controlled food and goods, the Ministry of Truth was the propaganda arm of the regime and the Ministry of Love monitored, arrested and tortured dissidents.

It would seem that George Orwell lives on in Ukraine's political discourse.
