The company said that in 2008, the only supplier of the natural gas to Ukraine was and is the RosUkrEnergo company, thus there can be no debt to the Russian Gazprom.

In compliance with the registered acts the Naftohaz Ukrainy's debt for the gas consumed in 2008 is $1.267 billion.

The company said that it does its best to repay the debt.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, on November 20, RosUkrEnergo said that the Naftohaz Ukrainy national joint-stock company owes it $ 2.4 billion for the consumed gas.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that if Ukraine does not repays the $ 2.4 billion debt, direct gas supplies to Ukraine are impossible.

Currently, the Naftohaz Ukrainy and Gazprom are holding talks on the conditions of gas supplies to Ukraine in 2009 and during the forthcoming periods.

The 50-percent stake in RosUkrEnergo belongs to Gazprom.
