Kyiv to equip 570 road crossings with video surveillance cameras by 2011
The Kyiv city state administration intends to equip all 570 city road crossings with the video surveillance systems in 2009-2010, the press service of the administration told this to the Ukrainian News agency.

The administration also intends to install 21 video surveillance cameras on the bridges across the Dnipro River and 70 cameras on the entrances of the city to control trucks traffic.

The video surveillance on the roads of the capital is installed in the frames of the introduction of the automated traffic control system.

According to the city state administration, currently, 18 road crossings are equipped with the surveillance cameras.

The Kyiv city state administration intends to send the information captured by the video cameras to the State Automobile Inspectorate department in Kyiv.

As Ukrainian News earlier reported, the raised fines for driving violations took effect on November 17.

Now the fine for drunk driving makes up UAH 2,550-3,400.

The Kyiv city state administration estimates the introduction of the automated traffic control system at UAH 286.6 million.

In the frames of the system introduction, the administration intends to install 205 sets of information tables, 93 sets of road-by stations, 93 video surveillance cameras and 333 transport detectors.
