Housing, utility tariffs may grow for Kyiv residents in 2009
The main department for pricing policy of the Kyiv city state administration says tariffs may rise on housing and utility services for the population in 2009.

Department head Vasyl Yastrubinskyi disclosed this during hearings on the grounds and results of the rise in the tariffs on utility services for legal entities, called by the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine (AMCU).

«It is quite possible that from the new year, with new prices of natural gas, we will have to return to the issue (of raising tariffs for the population),» he said.

In his words, the municipal administration will have to increase tariffs on housing and utility services for the population irrespective of whether it wishes to do so or not.

Yastrubinskyi reminded that in September - October, the administration studied the possibility of increasing tariffs for the population, but Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetskyi set forth to the Kyiv city council the initiative of increasing tariffs for legal entities, and leaving them unchanged for individuals.

However, Yastrubinskyi says, tariffs for the population, according to the spending on production of services, endorsed by the State Price Control Inspectorate, must be increased on the average 1.9 times for heating, 2.5 times for hot water supply and sewage, 2.7 times for cold water supply and sewage, and housing rent 3.1 times.

As Ukrainian News reported, in October the municipal administration called for increasing the tariffs on heating, cold and hot water, and sewage for the population by 29.7% - 52.4%.

Just goes to show, If they would just increase wages in the country, people would spend more. but when the people only make enough to get by, and a lot of them don\'t even make enough for that. wages in the country have to match the economic growth. or it will just stall right in your face. You can\'t increase utilities, wothout a way for the common people to pay for it. most of them can\'t afford it now....

Again the low paid have to bare the brunt of paying for the rich...
they should be working out how the people who have become billionaires avoid paying their taxes.. the city would have much more money in their coffers.
Also I see that the cameras are being introduced just like here in the UK... all they are there for is to raise money...on the pretext of safety.
How come they have the money to pay for all the cameras??

If the rich paid their taxes you think it would go towards funding better and more efficient utilities? No, it would go towards some government figure\'s dacha.

The traffic cameras are a good thing, people drive like idiots in Kiev and should pay for it. Regardless if you drive a BMW or a Lada you should be held responsible for your driving.
