NBU says increases in credit rates by number of banks are groundless

5 December 2008, 13:08 | Interfax-Ukraine
Kyiv, December 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has said increases in credit rates by a number of banks are unjustified, according to a letter of the NBU (No.47-112/3204-17164).

"A lot of citizens are complaining to the NBU regarding groundless increases of interest rates for consumer credits by the banks, which shows the banks have various levels of understanding of banking legislation and credit agreement conditions," the letter reads.

According to point 2.2 of the NBU's anti-crisis resolution (No.319) the banks are obliged take into account that amending credit agreements regarding credit rates that do not correspond to the NBU rate, will be regarded as a violation of the law on banks.
