Flight attendants working for the Kyiv-based AeroSvit airline have decided to put off a strike originally scheduled for September 28 following talks with the company's administration on Tuesday.

"AeroSvit’s administration is continuing a dialogue with the flight attendants. The sides have agreed to suspend the decision to start the strike at 00:01 on September 28, and are to carry on talks on Wednesday. The position of AeroSvit’s management remains unchanged: most of the demands put forth by the trade union, mainly concerning conditions of work and organization, and part of financial claims have been satisfied, and there are no grounds for the strike," AeroSvit’s press service told Interfax-Ukraine.

The company stressed that AeroSvit is not refusing to meet financial obligations to personnel given during the crisis period of 2008-2009. However, it suggests that the payments be made in keeping with the scheduled agreed with the trade union.

"At the same time, the airlines’ administration considers non-constructive the position of certain trade union leaders, who insist on the repayment of the accumulated salary backlog as a lump sum payment – all and at once. What is more, the point at issue is not the debt on current salaries, but only some allowances and compensations for previous years," the press service said.

AeroSvit’s air stewards announced a strike at 0001 on September 28, demanding an end to violations of the realization of their social and economic rights.

According to a press release issued by the strike committee, in particular, the cause of the labor dispute is the lack of proper conditions for work, irregular payment of salaries in full, and the non-payment of daily subsistence allowance and seniority benefits payments for work in the civil aviation industry.
