Ukraine opened new airport terminals in the four cities that hosted the Euro 2012 football championship games this summer. But this week’s shutdown of duty-free stores and restaurants in terminals across the country is likely to turn off visitors and tourists. Adding to the confusion, authorities announced on Sept. 4 that the biggest new terminal opened in Kyiv, Terminal D, will be auctioned to an investor. The terminal has remained largely empty and unused since the Euro 2012 games.

To the surprise of airline passengers flying out of Ukraine, most duty-free shops and cafes beyond passport control at the nation’s main airports have been shut down by authorities in recent days.
