Closed joint-stock company Artyomovsk Winery (Donetsk region), one of the largest sparkling wine producers in Ukraine, has signed a contract with the state-run company-importer from China to supply Ukrainian products, the head of the export department at the Ukrainian company, Artem Shuliak, said in an interview with the Business edition.

"The Chinese market is a very attractive market for our business. In the nearest plans is supply of 50,000-100,000 bottles per year to China," he said.

He said that active demand and high prices of imported alcohol in China neutralize expenses on long and expensive logistics.

He said that the cost of supplies to China exceeds the similar supply to Germany by 1.5-2 times, and the term of shipment is 35-45 days.

"In the EU countries the price of our sparkling wine on the shelves of stores EUR 9-14 per bottle, while in China the price will vary within EUR 14-18. This allows recompense the cost of shipment, retain the margin of the exporter and provide for extra income to the importer," he added.

Artyomovsk Winery was established in 1950 and is one of the biggest wineries in Europe producing champagne via the traditional bottle method.

The winery sells the brands Krimаrt, Artyomovskoye and Crimea in Ukraine. Its wine is exported to over 20 countries.

In 2010, the Artyomovsk Winery’s share of the Ukrainian sparkling wine market totaled 20.5%.
