You're reading: Azarov declines to comment on gas price talks with Russia

Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov has declined to disclose details of talks with Russia in which Ukraine is seeking a revision of natural gas deals between the two countries.

"We’ll tell you when [the talks] are over," Azarov said when asked by Interfax-Ukraine on the current status of the negotiations.

Earlier, Ukrainian newspaper Ekonomicheskie Izvestiya (Economic News) cited a source in the Ukrainian president’s office as saying Russia and Ukraine had agreed on a new gas price of between $230 and $230 per 1,000 cubic meters and other terms for revised contracts.

The two countries are due to sign the planned new agreements "around the end of November or the beginning of December," the paper quoted the source as saying.

"At the moment, technical details of the new agreements are still being negotiated at the level of the governments and the Naftogaz Ukrainy and Gazprom companies. When everything is ready, the date will be set for a meeting between the Ukrainian and Russian presidents, who will endorse the documents," the source said.

The source also said the planned deals would allow Russian rubles to be used for payments and lending.
