Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine would be able to control world prices of bread wheat if they join forces, according to Ukrainian Prime Minister Mykola Azarov.

"We have perfect soils. As of today, we’ve harvested 55 million tonnes of grain. We’ll clearly reach a yield level of about 80 million tonnes in the near future. We’ll be the world’s largest food grain exporter along with Kazakhstan and Russia", Azarov said at a lecture at Lev Gumilev Eurasian National University in Astana on Thursday.

He said this action would let the three countries coordinate export policy and "earn good money on this in the interests of our nations, our countries."

"To do this we’ll have to get united the way the OPEC countries control, for example, [oil] pricing policy and take control of prices for such an important strategic staple as bread wheat. Because one can live without many things, but no country can do without bread," he added.
