You're reading: Boryspil airport expecting increase in passenger flow by five percent in 2014

The Boryspil International Airport state enterprise (Kyiv) is expecting that passenger flow will grow by 5 percent in 2014, while in 2013 the passenger flow totaled 7.93 million.

Director General Serhiy Hombolevsky said in an interview with
Interfax-Ukraine that earlier, taking into account the trends of the
second half of 2013, it was expected that passenger flow will rise by
some 15 percent in 2014 and the initial financial plan for this year included
the said indicator.

The director said that in January and February the airport saw a 30 percent
rise in passenger flow, and in the first quarter growth was 17 percent.
However, due to the reduction of the volume of passenger transportation
in March, the airport serviced 4 percent passengers less than in March 2013.

“The decline in demand is first linked to the situation in the
country – both social and economic – people started flying less. Taking
into account changes in January – March 2014, the financial plan was
returned for revision, and we reflected growth of 5 percent in passenger flow.
All our plans for this year take into account the said indicator,”
Hombolevsky said.

He said that the airport anticipates that the situation will stabilize and the number of flights will increase in the future.

“In this sense we lay large hopes on the summer period. Now we’re
holding negotiations with many travel agencies and airlines on their
plans for the near future. We have the following trend: for example,
flights to Simferopol today are not performed, and many airlines
reorient themselves to Turkey, Greece and resorts of other countries.
Thus, we have preconditions for growth in passenger flow,” he said.

Boryspil International Airport is the main airport of the country and
accounts for 50 percent of the passenger air transportation in Ukraine. More
than 50 airlines fly from Boryspil to more than 100 destinations.

Boryspil International Airport is a member of the International Air
Transport Association (IATA), International Civil Aviation Organization
(ICAO) and Airports Council International Europe (ACI Europe).

Boryspil International Airport is the home airport for Ukraine International Airlines.
