Ukraine is in talks with international energy giant Royal Dutch Shell planning on construction of three coal gasification plants which could help the country cut down on increasingly expensive Russian natural gas imports, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Boiko told reporters on Jan. 13.

“Shell [representatives] will visit us on Monday [Jan. 16]. We discussed coal gasification with them. They’ve constructed plants in China and we’ve checked these plants. They suit us. We will have three such plants in our country,” Boyko said.
