You're reading: Central bank: Ukrainians buy $209.2 million more in foreign currency than they sell

The amount of net purchases by Ukrainians of foreign currency from banks in April 2012 was equivalent to $209.2 million, which was 2.6 times down on March 2012, according to the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

The NBU reported that individuals bought $1.505 billion from banks, which is 14% down on March 2012.

At the same time, the public sold $1.296 billion in foreign currency to the banks, which is 7.9% up from March.

In general, the total volume of transactions on the cash currency market in the fourth month of the year stood at $2.801 billion, which was 5% down on March 2012.

In addition, the NBU said the volume of bank deposits by individuals in freely convertible currency in April rose by $101.3 million, to $19.264 billion as of May 1, 2012.
