Chinese carmaker Geely plans in 2013 to increase the share of its cars on the Ukrainian car market to almost 10%, compared to 5.23% in 2012.

Director of the Geely distribution company (part of AIS) Andriy Samokhvalov told reporters at the Kyiv International Motor Show SIA 2013 that the sales of Geely cars in January-April 2013 were up by 76% compared to the same period in 2012, to 4,818 units, and in April sales more than doubled compared to April 2012, to 1,747 units.

“Of course, it is difficult to forecast the size of the market in the current year – in March-April the market rose on consumers’ expectations of the growth in prices after the imposition of import duties, and now it is difficult to say what the market will be in June and July. The ultimate goal this year is about 10%. Over the four months it was 7.14% and we want to at least keep this figure,” he said.

Samokhvalov noted that in 2012 Ukraine sold 11,385 cars of this brand, which is 71.2% more than the year before, and in December last year the brand occupied 9% of the market and was one of the leaders in cars sales.

In general, Ukraine since 2007 has sold more than 50,000 Geely cars.
