You're reading: Coal from South Africa costs Ukraine 86 dollars per tonne

Coal, supplied to Ukraine from the Republic of South Africa, cost $86 per tonne, Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Yuriy Prodan has said at a briefing in Kyiv. 

“The price of coal in the port [the Ukrainian port] is $86 per tonne. This is without unloading. The price is formed transparently,” he said.

Prodan noted that the cost of coal is not fixed for the entire contracted volume [one million tonnes by the end of the year], it is formed on a monthly basis.

The minister added that one ship with African coal has arrived in Ukraine and two more vessels are on the way, the fourth ship is being loaded in South Africa.

According to the minister, now there is the task at the expense of own production, as well as diversified procurement to ensure the stocks of coal of all grades in the warehouses by January 1, 2015 in the amount of 3 million tonnes.
