You're reading: Coal seller from South African Republic to publish contract to prove transparency of coal shipments to Ukraine – Prodan

Coal shipments from the South African Republic have been carried out on market-based conditions, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Prodan said in Kyiv on Monday after his visit to the Prosecutor General's Office where he was questioned about that deal.

“The seller of the coal will publish the contract,” he said, noting that the publication of this commercial document is now being agreed with the buyer – state-run Ukrinterenergo company.

Prodan said that he had been questioned by prosecutors as a witness.

In his words, Ukraine needs such coal purchases today amid a coal deficit and risks related to coal shipments from Russia.

Coal is also imported by private owners of energy generating facilities – DTEK and Tehnova LLC (owns Kyiv-based Darnytsia thermal power plant) from the South African Republic and Australia.

As was reported, Ukrinterenergo bought coal in the South African Republic from Steel Mont Trading.
