Consumer debt before NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy for topping gas has reached Hr 40 billion or about $2.96 billion according to today's exchange rate.

“It [the level of debt] is approximately Hr 40 billion, of which 20 billion hryvnia are debts owed by thermal energy enterprises,” Naftogaz Ukrainy head Andriy Kobolev said at a government meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

He said that the devaluation of the hryvnia has substantially impacted the financial state of the company, whose losses amounted to more than Hr 9 billion.

The official exchange rate, posted by the National Bank of Ukraine on Sept. 23 was Hr 13.5261/$1.
