You're reading: Crimean taxmen seize server and documents from Morye shipyard, operation of company paralyzed

have said that the operations of the company have been blocked by the actions of taxmen, who have seized the company's server and documents.

They expressed alarm at a threat of a wrecking of a large export contract in the defense and technical area with China worth over $300 million.

Director General of Morye shipbuilding company, Vitaliy Kryvenko, told Interfax-Ukraine that on July 27, 2013 around 20 representatives of the Simferopol department of the Income and Tax Ministry in Crimea carried out “actions to apply pressure” on the top managers and employees of the company, which is trying to return a debt of the state to the Morye shipbuilding company for value added tax (VAT) refunding worth around Hr 95 million that was formed in 2009-2013.

“The company is shocked with a search conducted by taxmen in the manner of a circus show, with the seizure of the server and documents. I don’t know why, but they had to jump over the turnstiles at gatekeeper’s of the Morye shipbuilding company like hares and push employees out of the accounting and financial departments – mainly women of pension age. It’s difficult to explain to people that it’s likely that today this is the regular form of communication used by taxmen,” Kryvenko said.

He said that the Morye shipbuilding company has always presented documents regarding its economic operations at the request of the tax agencies. There are no grounds at the company for hiding any documents from them, he said.

“The inadmissibility of such actions by taxmen is obvious, even if the tax service does not confirm the accruing of refunded VAT worth some Hr 740,000 in March 2013,” the director said.

“We expect an appropriate response from the authorities to the incident, as the blocking of the operation of the shipbuilding company puts at risk the realization of Ukraine’s liabilities in one of the most important areas of Ukrainian-Chinese relations,” he said.

“I’m sure that it’s not just Ukrainian top officials who are monitoring the successful implementation of the largest contract with China in the history of the Ukrainian military shipbuilding sector,” he added.

Morye shipbuilding company is an internationally famous producer of high-speed ships and hydrofoils, pleasure yachts, and cutters.

Under a decision of the Ukrainian government, in July 2012 a 100 percent stake in the shipyard was transferred to the management of state concern Ukroboronprom.

In 2010, Morye shipyard started the implementation of a contract worth $350 million for the construction of small hovercraft landing ships for the Chinese military.
