You're reading: DTEK believes accusations of monopoly are groundless, ready to investigation

DTEK energy holding did not commit anticompetitive actions on the coal and electricity generation markets and under Ukrainian law it is not a monopolist, the holding said in a press release issued last week.

DTEK said that all assets were acquired in line with Ukrainian law. The assessment of the market position of the company confirmed that concentration of assets does not result in monopoly or the large restriction of competition in the sector.

According to the statement, the regulator and the profile ministry has the right to send a request to start an investigation into abuse of monopoly by market players to the Antimonopoly Committee of Ukraine.

DTEK asked the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry to initiate the investigation to close the chapter on the issue.

“We believe that it is unacceptable to substitute the absence of the competitive market and a failure of reforms by groundless accusations in monopoly of large players in the sector. Destruction of large business would not result in the creation of competitive environment. The liberalization of the market and reformation of the energy sector is the only way to forming sane competition. This is the position which DTEK protected and will protect,” the holding said.
