The share of mines under the control of the largest private energy holding in Ukraine – DTEK – of total coal extraction in the country in January-March 2012 came to 47.5%, read materials of the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry of Ukraine.

The materials say that coalmines in Ukraine produced 21.597 million tonnes in the first quarter of 2012 year-over-year, while DTEK’s mines produced 10.256 million tonnes.

DTEK Pavlohradvuhillia over the period extracted 4.24 million tonnes of coal, DTEK Rovenkiantracit – 1,909 million tonnes, DTEK Sverdlovantracit – 1.772 million tonnes, DTEK Komsomolets Donbasu Mine – 1.089 million tonnes, DTEK Dobropilliavuhillia – 1.057 million tonnes and Bilozerska Mine – 189,000 tonnes.

Taking into account Krasnodonvuhillia, which is part of Metinvest (System Capital Management holds a 71.25% stake in the group), which in the first three months extracted 1.366 million tonnes, SCM’s share of total coal extraction in Ukraine will be 52%.

As reported, coalmines in Ukraine upped coal production by 8.9% (by 6.693 million tonnes) in 2011 to 81.859 million tonnes in comparison with 2010, the Ukrainian Energy and Coal Ministry said.

Energy Minister Yuriy Boiko forecasts the growth in coal production in Ukraine in 2012 at 2-2.5% compared to 2010, to 84 million tonnes.

DTEK Director-General Maksym Tymchenko reported in February that energy holding plans in 2012 to produce 40 million tonnes of coal. Thus, over the year to share of DTEK could reach 48%.
