You're reading: Economy ministry predicts grain harvest in Ukraine to reach almost 60 million in 2014

The interagency working group at the Economic Development and Trade Ministry of Ukraine has improved the forecast for grain harvest in Ukraine in 2014 by 2.3 percent or almost 1.4 million tonnes compared to the August projection, to 59.93 million tonnes (Crimea is not taken into account).

According to the revised balances of the ministry posted on its official Web site, wheat harvest will total 23.7 million tonnes (13 percent more than the forecast as of August 1, 2014), barley harvest – 8.9 million tonnes (12 percent more), rye harvest – almost 500,000 tonnes (9.5 percent up), while the corn harvest was revised downwards by 9.2 percent, to 25.2 million tonnes.

The assessment of ending stocks of grain as of early 2014/15 agri-year (July-June) was not hanged – 8.34 million tonnes.

In the current agricultural year the ministry said that it is appropriate to export 33.7 million tonnes of grain from Ukraine, including around 11.7 million tonnes of wheat, 4.08 million tonnes of barley, and 15.5 million tonnes of corn. Ending stocks at the end of the current agricultural year should total 7.54 million tonnes.
