You're reading: Energoatom cuts output by nearly 8 percent

Power generation by all nuclear power plants run by Ukrainian National Nuclear Generating Company Energoatom fell by 7.8% or by 6.38 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) year-over-year in January-November 2013, to 75.314 billion kWh, the company has told Interfax-Ukraine.

This was 0.3% above the target.

The reduction of electricity generation is mainly linked to the fact that reactors were idling on forced standby or under maintenance due to transmission restrictions.

The company’s power plants in the period sold 70.625 billion kWh of electricity to the market, against 76.826 billion kWh in January-November 2012. The share of Energoatom of total energy sales to Energomarket in January-November 2013 was 44.3%, while that in total production in the country was 43%.

Energoatom’s sales of electricity on the wholesale electricity market in January-November 2013 were estimated at UAH 18.555 billion (including VAT), which was 6.7% down on January-November 2012 (UAH 19.896 billion).

The capital investment spending was UAH 2.562 billion against UAH 2.152 billion in the same period of 2012. The financing of capital investment stood at UAH 2.466 billion compared with UAH 2.16 billion.

January through November 2013, the company paid UAH 3.299 billion to the budgets of all levels, insurance settlements amounted to UAH 1.556 billion.

Energoatom’s capacity factor in 11 months was 67.7%, which is 5.6 percentage notches down year-over-year (73.3%).

The rated electrical loading readiness coefficient over the period came to 76.8% compared with 76.3% year-over-year.

Over the period under review, the nuclear power plants recorded 11 accidents, while their number was 13 in the same period last year.

From January to November 2013, the total number of days when Energoatom’s nuclear power plants were undergoing maintenance repairs was 1,059.19, including finished repairs – 743.14 days.

The radiation exposure level over the period under review did not exceed the norms, and the radiation protection of the personnel and the population in the nearby area was at an acceptable level.

Power generation by all plants run by Energoatom dropped by 0.1%, to 90.3 billion kWh in 2012.

Energoatom is the operator of all four Ukrainian-based operating nuclear power plants, which have 15 VVER reactors with an overall generating capacity of 13.835 gigawatts.

The company also operates the Tashlyk hydroelectric pumped storage power plant with a 302 MW capacity in turbine mode and Oleksandrivka hydropower plant with an 11.5 MW capacity, which together with Yuzhnoukrainsk nuclear power plant make up the South Ukrainian energy complex. Energoatom also operates the Donuzlav wind farm.
