You're reading: Energy ministry orders heads of 13 coalmines to prepare property for privatization by early March

The Energy and coal Industry Ministry of Ukraine has instructed heads of 13 state-run coal companies by March 3, 2013 to prepare their property for privatization in 2012-2014.

The order is stipulated in ministry resolution No. 1004 of December 13, 2012 posted on the ministry’s Web site in early 2013.

The resolution concerns Artemvuhillia, Ordzhonikidzevuhillia, Snizhneantracit, Makiyivvuhillia, Donetsk coal Energy Company, Krasnoarmiyskvuhillia, Torezantracit, Shakhtarskantracit (all based in Donetsk region), Donbasantracit, Luhanskvuhillia, Pervomaiskvuhillia (all based in Luhansk region) and Volynvuhillia and Lvivvuhillia.

As reported, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine has ordered the corporatization of 17 state-run coalmines in 2012-2014. The decision is stipulated in cabinet resolution No. 728-r of September 19, 2012.

According to the document, the following companies are to undergo the procedure: Artemvuhillia, Ordzhonikidzevuhillia, Snizhneantracit, Makiyivvuhillia, Donetsk Coal Energy Company, Krasnoarmiyskvuhillia, Dzerzhynskvuhillia, Krasnolymanska, Pivdennodonbaske 1 colliery group, Torezantracit, Shakhtarskantracit, Selydovevuhillia (all based in Donetsk region), Donbasantracit, Luhanskvuhillia, Pervomaiskvuhillia (all based in Luhansk region) and Volynvuhillia and Lvivvuhillia.

Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych in May 2012 signed a law on the privatization of coal mining enterprises. Subject to privatization, according to the document, are the integrated property complexes of coal mining enterprises, coalmines, colliery groups and coal pits, as well as state stakes in coalmining companies’ charter capitals.

The government at the beginning of February approved a list of mines that can be run under concession agreements, which includes more than 95% of all state-owned mines or more than 85 coal mines and colliery groups.
