You're reading: Gazprom calls gas talks with Ukraine constructive

Moscow, Sept. 30 (Interfax) - Negotiations between Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller and Ukraine's Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Boiko on cooperation in the field of gas came off "in a constructive key" on Friday, Gazprom said.

"The decision was made to continue the negotiations next week," the company said.

Ukraine wants to review the gas contracts signed by its former prime minister, Yulia Tymoshenko, in 2009 after the last transit crisis.

The Russian and Ukrainian presidents, Dmitry Medvedev and Viktor Yanukovych, held talks in Moscow on September 24, and discussed, among other things, the transit and supply of gas to Ukraine.

The Russian president’s press secretary, Natalya Timakova, told journalists on Sunday that following these agreements, a meeting was held between Gazprom chief Alexei Miller and Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Boiko.

She said the Gazprom chief reported to the Russian president that "significant progress had been reached in the discussion of the Ukrainian gas transit fee, which allows expectations that the relevant agreements will be signed in the interests of both sides."
