Huawei Company plans to achieve a 3% share of the Ukrainian smartphone market by the fourth quarter of 2013, and 5% of the market at the end of the year, head of the distribution department of the company in Ukraine, Kyrylo Mykhailychenko, said in Kyiv on Thursday at the presentation of Ascend Mate and Ascend D2 smartphones in Ukraine.

Commenting on the company’s today share of the smartphone market, he said that at issue is the way used to calculate the share.

“We believe that according to our shipments and market volumes and according to our calculations, in the first quarter of 2013 it was around 1.7%,” he said.

However, Mykhailychenko said that GfK calculates the share using information about sales of partners of Huawei company, and according to them, the share is 0.8%.

“There are nuances here: many of our partners who sell our products are small operators, which do not submit data to GfK, so 50% of our sales are not registered,” he said.

Commenting on two new smartphones, he said that the Ascend D2 has a 5-inch display, a quad-core processor that can reach 1.5 Gigahertz, and a 13-megpixel camera.

Ascend Mate has a 6.1-inch display, a 1.5 Gigahertz quad-core processor, a 4,050 milliampere-hours battery and two cameras of eight megapixels and one megapixel.

The smartphones will be sold via the partners Rozetka.ua and MOYO.

The Ascend D2 will be sold at the MOYO chain for UAH 5,555, and the Ascend Mate will be sold at the Rozetka.ua online shop for UAH 3,999.

In addition, he said that Huawei in Ukraine is cooperating with two CDMA operators – PeopleNet and Intertelecom and in the future it plans to bring the line of smartphones for CDMA operators.

“Everything depends not only on our desire, but also on operators. We also plan to launch a two-standard GSM/CDMA smartphone,” he said.

Huawei is an international supplier of IT and communications solutions. The company provides services and sells its products in over 140 countries.
