The grain harvest in Ukraine in 2012 will be lower that last year due to adverse weather conditions, forecasts the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center.

“Assessing the situation as a whole, it is worse than last year, but
not worse than in 2010 or in other years when we saw drought in the
country,” Head of the Ukrainian Hydrometeorological Center Mykola
Kulbida said at a briefing in Kyiv on June 18.

According to him, there are very complicated agro-meteorological
conditions in the western regions: soil over-saturation on the
background of low temperatures.

“Of course, this leads to crop diseases and the spread of pests. And,
of course, there will be some loss of productivity due to this,”
Kulbida said.
