You're reading: Izvestia in Ukraine newspaper closes in February

The last issue of the Izvestia in Ukraine newspaper was released on February 11 and by the end of February the newspaper will close.

“It’s no secret that the global market for print media cannot get out
of the protracted crisis, and Ukraine is no exception,” reads a
statement by Director General of the Izvestia in Ukraine Oleh Boyarchuk
posted on the newspaper’s Web site.

“We have been trying for a long time to find a format that will make
the publication profitable, but we haven’t achieved all the desired
parameters. Nevertheless, we are grateful to all those who have worked
[for the newspaper], and I want to assure that we will end our relations
in a civilized manner – in compliance with the current labor laws,” he
said.
