You're reading: Journalist: Pukach only tool of Gongadze’s murder

Oleksiy Pukach was only a tool of the murder of journalist Georgy Gongadze, journalist Oleksiy Podolsky has said in an interview with the Den newspaper.

According to Podolsky, "the system created by [our] current politicians doesn’t care about the civil society. And this system, in which the law enforcement agencies serve politicians, is being reinforced at present. And nobody plans to judge this system. The government is [blaming] everything … [on] the malicious Generals [Yuriy] Kravchenko and Pukach."

"The absence of political will was always the brake on the investigation into the case. [Former President Leonid] Kuchma, [former President Viktor] Yuschenko lacked it, as does [President Viktor] Yanukovych at present. It seemed that Yuschenko would ‘give the green light’ to the investigation. But the promise by Yuschenko ‘to put bandits in prisons’ was realized quite to the contrary," the journalist said.

According to him, the current government is investigating the case of the murder of Gongadze so as to "to finish [the case] for the West, to state that the case is closed."

"For this reason they involved Pukach. And the main thing is that they want to close the case using the deceased general [Kravchenko]. I believe he was killed, and the investigation into his murder was also falsified," the journalist said.
