Ukraine intends to complete negotiations with the European Union (EU) on the creation of a free-trade zone (FTZ) in October 2011, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry's spokesman Oleksandr Dykusarov told a briefing on Tuesday.

Another round of the FTZ talks took place on Sept. 19 – 23, he said. "The parties intend to complete Ukraine – EU FTZ talks this October," Dykusarov said.

Asked about Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry reaction to EU Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Commissioner Stefan Fule’s statement that the association agreement will not nail down Ukraine’s prospects for EU membership, Dykusarov said: "I think that media did not give these statements in full, they were taken from the context."

Ukraine’s Foreign Ministry does its best so that Ukraine gets the most advantageous positions in the association agreement, including on the free-trade zone, he added.
