BERLIN - German Chancellor Angela Merkel says she hopes that the European Union, Russia and Ukraine will soon be able to settle all dispute issues related to gas supplies, AP reported on Sept. 23.

Addressing German business leaders earlier on Tuesday, she said that the gas dispute had to be resolved “as quickly as possible.”

Merkel says that the reliability of Russian gas shipments to Europe greatly depends on transit supplies through Ukraine.

“Winter is nearing, so time is pressing,” she said.

As was reported, a meeting of the EU, Ukraine, and Russia on gas issues is scheduled for Sept. 26.
