MOSCOW - Gazprom and Naftogaz Ukrainy will not sign a gas agreement before the end of December 2011, Gazprom CEO Alexei Miller told journalists in Moscow after a traditional annual meeting between the company executives and editors-in-chief from regional media outlets.

"There will be no New Year presents," Miller told journalists.

On Monday evening, Gazprom issued a press release about Miller’s meeting with Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Yuriy Boiko.

Whereas earlier statements by the Russian company contained positive assessments of the negotiating process and the expectations that the talks will end with new contracts being signed before the end of 2011, this time Gazprom was markedly laconic.

"The meeting focused on the discussion of the current and future cooperation," all that Gazprom said in its press release.

The meeting with regional media executives was attended by over 300 representatives from electronic and print media from virtually all Russian constituent regions.
