Davos - A nomination committee will evaluate candidates for the posts of director at 60 of the largest Ukrainian companies for the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Economic Development and Trade Minister Aivaras Abromavicius has said.

The committee will include ministers, representatives of international financial organizations and prolific managers.

On the sidelines of the Ukrainian Breakfast arranged by the Pinchuk Foundation at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Jan. 23, he told Interfax-Ukraine that this concerns enterprises with an annual turnover of over Hr 1.5 billion, or assets of over Hr 3 billion.

Abromavicius said that the state owns around 1,900 enterprises, and that 60 percent of them have revenue of less than 1 million euros. He said that an independent and transparent commission at the ministerial level will select the heads of most of the companies.

He said that the Infrastructure Ministry was the first to create the commission, which includes experts from Talent Advisors, ЕBS and Deloitt.

“We’ll create these commissions in all ministries at this stage if they want to change the top managers of certain companies,” the minister said.

For the largest companies which are in line with the above-mentioned requirement, the nomination committee will select the candidates. Abromavicius noted that the committee includes him, Energy and Coal Industry Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn, Finance Minister Natalie Jaresko, Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Oleksiy Pavlenko, and Infrastructure Minister Andriy Pyvovarsky.

The heads of representative offices in Ukraine of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, World Bank and International Finance Corporation (IFC), and President of Kyiv School of Economics and former head of Kraft Foods Ukraine Yuriy Lohush have been invited to participate in the commission. Abromavicius said that he has not selected the final candidate to represent the non-state quota.

The commission will initially select candidates recommending two to five of the best candidates to the nomination committee. The nomination committee will recommend one candidate to the cabinet.

He said that there is no guarantee that the cabinet will approve the candidate selected.
