You're reading: Oil extraction in Ukraine down 5.2% in four months

Oil extraction in Ukraine in January-April 2012 fell by 5.2% or by 41,800 tonnes year-on-year, to 766,600 tonnes, the Energy and Coal Industry Ministry has told Interfax-Ukraine.

Production of gas condensate came to 318,400 tonnes for the period, which was 2.6% or 8,000 tonnes up year-on-year.

Companies run by National joint-stock company Naftogaz Ukrainy cut oil production by 5.8% or by 43,600 tonnes, to 713,600 tonnes, and gas condensate production grew by 1.6% or by 4,300 tonnes, to 272,700 tonnes.

This included Ukrnafta, which produced 6.5% less oil, or 655,050 tonnes, and 12.3% more condensate, or 67,810 tonnes; Ukrgazvydobuvannia, which produced 3.5% more oil, or 55,600 tonnes and 0.9% less gas condensate, or 181,770 tonnes; and Chornomornaftogaz, which produced 0.7% less oil, or 2,980 tonnes and 5.9% less gas condensate, or 23,060 tonnes.

Other oil and gas extraction companies working in Ukraine produced 3.5% more oil, or a total of 52,930 tonnes, and 9.1% more gas condensate, or a total of 45,850 tonnes.

The joint venture Poltava Petroleum Company reduced oil and gas condensate production by 28.2%, to 24,054 tonnes, production at Naftogazvydobuvannia slumped 5.6%, to 11,113 tonnes, and production at Ukrkarpatoil Ltd. slipped 1.6%, to 18,232 tonnes. However, production doubled to 11,017 tonnes at joint venture Kashtan Petroleum Ltd., and rose 1.2%, 11,472 tonnes, at Ukrnaftoburinnia.

Oil production in Ukraine slumped 6.3%, to 2.409 million tonnes in 2011, and gas condensate production fell 6.4%, to 916,600 tonnes.
