Only companies that bought wheat at a trading session held on the Agrarian Fund on January 22, 2013, have the right to export wheat from Ukraine, the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry of Ukraine has reported.

“Only those companies that bought wheat at an open trading session on the exchange conducted by the Agrarian Fund have the right to export it. The conditions were agreed with the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry and grain traders,” reads the report of the ministry issued on Tuesday.

The ministry said that Ukraine since the start of the current agricultural year (July 2012 – June 2013) supplied 16.25 million tonnes of grain to foreign markets, including 6.04 million tonnes of wheat, 7.95 million tonnes of corn and 1.98 million tonnes of barley.

“The amount is in line with the agreements that grain traders reached with the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry when they signed the corresponding memorandum of cooperation,” the ministry said.

According to the ministry, the country’s export potential for the current agricultural year totals 23.2 million tonnes of grain.

The ministry said that at present, corn is the main crop that is exported from Ukraine among grain crops. The amount of corn out of 1.9 million tonnes of grain exported in January was 1.5 million tonnes. Some 175,500 tonnes of wheat and 142,600 tonnes of barley were exported in January.

The ministry noted that grain stocks in the country fully satisfy the domestic need in grain.

As reported, the Agrarian Fund of Ukraine at a trading session on January 22, 2013 conducted on the Agrarian Exchange sold almost 225,300 tonnes of grain worth over Hr 492 million.

Early this season grain traders and the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry signed a supplement to the memo, where they defined the conditions of the possible introduction of restrictions on grain exports by the state and the upper limit of grain for exports.

The State Statistics Service estimated Ukraine’s grain harvest in 2012 at about 46.2 million tonnes against the record high of 56.7 million tonnes gathered in 2011.
