Trade between Ukraine and Customs Union member countries, namely Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, has already declined by 30%, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko said.

“Our trade with the Customs Union has declined by 30% already, without any measures taken. This is not advantageous both to Ukraine and our Customs Union partners. There’s no way we could allow a further worsening of trade conditions,” he said at the Ukraine-European Union-Eurasian Troika summit in Minsk on Aug. 26.

He said that the sides should strive to achieve a win-win situation in the sphere of trade. “The consistent implementation of this [Association] Agreement [with the EU] cannot do any harm to our partners – Customs Union member countries and all of our other trading partners,” he said.

Poroshenko also assured that the trade provisions sealed in the Association Agreement with the EU, do not pose any threat to other countries. “What is more, I am convinced, they’re compatible with the free trade of the Customs Union,” he added.
