ZHYTOMYR – Grain exports from Ukraine in the new agricultural year (July 2012 – June 2013) could reach 22-23 million tons, which is almost the same as in the previous season, Agricultural Policy and Food Minister Mykola Prysiazhniuk has said.

“We plan to export 22-23 million tonnes of grain next agricultural
year, with the forecasted harvest being 47 million tonnes,” he told
Interfax-Ukraine in Zhytomyr on Thursday.

The minister said that the grain ending stocks, which are larger than
last year’s ending stocks, would promote exports of grain crops this
season.

Earlier the Agricultural Policy and Food Ministry forecast that grain
exports in Ukraine in the new agricultural year would be around 26
million tonnes.

Ukraine in the previous agricultural year (July 2011-June 2012)
exported 21.8 million tonnes of grain, which is 81% up on the year
before.

The country harvested 56.7 million tonnes of grain in 2011, which was 44.3% more than the year before.

Grain stocks at farms in Ukraine (apart small) and grain storage
companies came to 10.9 million tonnes as of June 1, 2012, which is 79%
up year-over-year.
