You're reading: Real wages in Ukraine 3.7 percent down in May

Real wages in Ukraine (excluding Crimea and Sevastopol) in May 2014 fell by 3.7 percent compared to April this year and by 5.4 percent compared to May 2013, the State Statistics Service has said.

According to its data, the decrease in real wages in the past month was observed in Kyiv (8.8 percent), Odesa (7.8 percent), Donetsk and Cherkasy (6.8 percent), Kharkiv (6.6 percent), Luhansk (6.3 percent), Kherson (5.8 percent), Vinnytsia (5.7 percent), Kirovohrad (5.6 percent), Volyn (6.3 percent), Sumy (5.2 percent) Rivne (4.8 percent), Zhytomyr (4.7 percent), Chernihiv (4.6 percent) and Poltava regions (4.5 percent).

Reductions in real wages in Kyiv in May compared to April of the current year amounted to 5.5 percent.

As the State Statistics Service said, the average monthly salary of full-time employees in Ukraine in May 2014 compared to April 2014 did not change, compared to May 2013 it grew by 5 percent, to Hr 3,430.

The highest average wages in May 2014 were recorded in Kyiv (Hr 5,272) and the lowest in Ternopil region (Hr 2,483).

Increases in wages in May 2014 compared to April 2014 were registered in the following branches of the economy: information and telecommunications (3.3 percent), arts, sports and entertainment (7.6 percent), operations with real estate (25 percent), at agricultural, forestry and fishery enterprises (4.3 percent), the industrial sector (6.7 percent), professional, scientific and technical activity (13.8 percent) and construction (1.7 percent).

According to the State Statistics Service, the average monthly salary of full-time employees in Ukraine in January-May 2014 came to Hr 3,328.
