Russian Ambassador to Ukraine Mikhail Zurabov has said that the talks on the natural gas supply between the two countries will soon recommence and intensify.

"Today I can say that during a telephone conversation that took place two days ago between the president of Ukraine and the Russian leadership, they decided to resume and intensify these talks – they will recommence in Moscow soon," the ambassador said on Friday in Kyiv at a meeting of Russian diplomats on the occasion of their professional holiday.

The likelihood that the two countries could reach mutually acceptable agreements is quite great, and this could happen soon, he said.

In describing the state of Russian-Ukrainian relations, the ambassador said "some problems in the energy cooperation area are still in place."
