Shell is concerned about the attempts of the authorities to manually intervene in the work of the Ukrainian gas market, Shell Head in Ukraine Graham Tiley has said.

“We are concerned about some legislative attempts to intervene in the operation of the gas market, especially in terms of pricing, setting obligations to sell gas to certain groups of consumers, etc.,” he said in an interview with the Business newspaper published on Monday.

According to him, such actions from the side of the authorities will not add stability to Shell’s operation in Ukraine.

Earlier Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Eduard Stavytsky reported that the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on June 19 made the decision, which obliged private mining companies in the period from July 1 to October 15 this year to pump 50 percent of the gas produced to underground gas storage facilities. The minister said that such a measure would allow to additionally accumulate about one billion cubic meters of gas in underground gas stores.

At the same time, a relevant order as of the evening of July 1 had not been posted on the government’s Web site.
