Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Ihor Sorkin has been appointed acting NBU governor, a source in the central bank has reported.

“Sorkin has been appointed acting NBU governor. This does not mean
that he will be appointed NBU governor to replace [Serhiy] Arbuzov [who
has been appointed First Vice Premier of Ukraine],” he said.

The press service of the NBU has not named the acting NBU governor.

As reported, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych on Monday
appointed Arbuzov First Vice Premier of Ukraine and Head of NBU Council
Ihor Prasolov was appointed Economic Development and Trade Minister.

The NBU governor is appointed and dismissed by parliament under a
proposal of the Ukrainian president. The NBU head is appointed for seven
year. According to Article 18 of the law on the National Bank of
Ukraine, a person who takes a post of the head of the government body
cannot be NBU governor.
