You're reading: Survey: 89% of Ukrainians aged 16 or over use mobile communications in Ukraine

As of April 1, 2013, 89% of Ukrainians of 16 years old and more used mobile communications in the country, which is 3 percentage notches up year-over-year, according to a survey of the telecommunications market published on Monday, June 3 by GfK Ukraine Company. 

According to the document, the largest growth was seen in towns with the population up to 50,000. The number of mobile communications users in the over-60 group increased, and saturation in the group reached almost 70%.

The average payment of a subscriber in the first quarter of 2013 stood at Hr 45, which is Hr 4 bigger than in the first quarter of 2012.

The analysts said that the number of users of mobile Internet grew: as of late Q1, 2013, 10.3% of Ukrainians used the mobile Internet access service via mobile devices. Men are the more active users of mobile Internet via mobile phones – 12.5% compared to 8.3% for women. According to the age structure, the 16-19 year old group is the most active users – almost 40% of the group use mobile phones or smartphones.

The study was conducted using an interview method. A total of 1,000 respondents was polled a month.
