Zurich - Swiss International Air Lines from Oct. 1, 2014 will stop performing direct flights between Kyiv and Zurich, reads a company press release.

The decision is linked to the economic reasons, as the pace of demand on the route did not come up to the expectations of the Swiss airline.

“The Zurich-Kyiv route did not come up to our expectations. The situation in Ukraine also played its role,” a representative of the airline Sonja Ptaszek said.

Swiss started performing flights to Ukraine in autumn 2013: the first flight departed on Oct. 27, although due to the Ukrainian crisis the airline has had to cancel its further development plans, the Blick Swiss newspaper said.

The flight was performed using an Airbus 320 with 152 passenger seats.

All passengers affected by the decision of Swiss will be able to cancel their tickets free of charge or rebook them for the flights of partner airlines.

Germany’s Lufthansa, the parent company of the group, which incorporates Swiss, flies to Ukraine several times a day from Munich and Frankfurt. Austrian Airlines, which is also a part of the group, continues performing Vienna-Kyiv flights.

Ptaszek said that Swiss Air does not plan to cancel flights to Tel-Aviv, despite threats of Hamas.
