Odesa - Two new sports palaces and one renovated and rebuilt one will operate in Odesa region ahead of the EuroBasket 2015 European Basketball Championship, Chairman of Odesa Regional State Administration Eduard Matviychuk has said at a meeting on preparing for and holding the championship in Odesa.

He said that as for the new sports palaces, the issue concerns the construction of an entirely new facility designed for more than 10,000 seats on the territory of the former October Revolution Plant and a universal training facility that is to be located outside of Odesa.

The first facility will be built by businessman Ihor Kolomoisky and companies he owns. The training facility will be located on a one-hectare area. Matviychuk said that the main conditions during the selection of its location would be the presence of convenient transport infrastructure.

“UAH 42 million will be allocated for these purposes. This will be a universal sporting facility,” he said, without specifying a source of funding for this project.

In addition, as part of preparations for EuroBasket 2015 it is planned to renovate the existing building of the Odesa Sports Palace.

“We will build a proper, multi-functional stadium that will be used in the future. We have, for example, plans on how even a hockey team could perform on it in future,” Matviychuk said.
