Russian-British energy joint venture TNK-BP is upbeat on its chances for winning a tender to sign of a production sharing agreement with Ukraine to explore for hydrocarbons on the Yuzivska field (Kharkiv and Donetsk oblasts), Interfax-Ukraine reported on April 12 citing German Khan, the company's executive director.

"We’re full of optimism. We want to win, as we have advantages," Khan said during a visit to Kyiv on April 12.

According to Khan, TNK-BP knows the Ukrainian market well. One of it’s owners, BP,is ready to provide know-how on shale gas and other technologies to explore and extract hydrocarbons from the field, he said.

"We’re consulting the government to understand what primary tasks are set for the investor: the short-term task is to replenish the budget or the long-term tasks – to obtain additional gas stocks," Khan said.

According to Khan, TNK-BPdoes not plan to bid for the Olesskyy field (Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk oblasts) and is not mulling coalbed methane extraction investments in Ukraine. But, TNK-BP is ready to take part Black Sea Shelf exploration and production projects, he added.

Ukraine’s govenrment is scheduled to announce the winning bidder for PSA agreements for both the Yuzivska and Olessky fields on Feb. 23. The tender has attracted bids from international energy majors such as Royal Dutch Shell, Chevron and Eni, government officials said.
